The Haunting Green – Self Titled EP ...

It’s fitting that this EP starts with a haunting intro that immediately reminded me of early ‘80s Ozzy.  As soon as everything kicks in you forget that this Italian post-doom outfit is only a two piece. Guitars, vox, electronics are courtesy Cristiano Perin with Chantal Fresco smashing the drums and also adding vox.

Screaming that is usually the downfall in bands of this sort grabs the listener and demands attention making “The Mournful Sons” fly by at nearly eight minutes. Another item that grabbed my attention was the snare sound.

I’m a fussy person when it comes to snare sounds to the point of them sometimes ruining albums for me. This snare sounded sightly different to me. Extra gated or dry. Almost distracting to me but hell I wont bitch.”Our Days In Silence” was a standout for me on this EP. A definite trip that any listener will enjoy. Grab some headphones and kick back. At some points  the lack of bass is noticeable but the songs don’t really suffer in the heavy dept. Sometimes my cats help me make a decision on a band.

They’ll either sit right next to a speaker that are blasting the heaviest of tunes or leave the room not having any of it. They’ve been doing this for years and are nearly always right about who rules and who doesn’t. They both sat ears pressed against the stereo.  The one complaint I have is that the songs are all the same tempo and seem interchangeable.

But I figure in the long run this should pass as they keep writing this type of heavy tunes. A decent EP with just the right mixture of thought provoking passages, nastiness, and grime. Plus great vocals.
